Empty London

As an addendum to my earlier post about life in the UK, I'd like to share a few photos taken by my husband Chris (with his permission) of the empty streets in central London. I haven't been into the centre of the city since the lockdown began - I can't take the Tube as I normally would (it's restricted to those who absolutely have to travel, like key workers, and in any case I wouldn't want to. It's too far to walk and unlike Chris I don't cycle. But he has been doing a weekly bike ride, on a Sunday morning when it is quiet, right into the West End and beyond. Here are a few of his photos of London as we never normally see it.

Thanks for posting these pictures Sarah. It's 'spooky' as you say. Places that are normally full of life now so empty. Hopefully they will be 'buzzing again in the not too distant future.

Thanks everyone, and let's hope so Natalie :)

Sarah, it seems so ironic that when traveling I often wish I could capture a place with no people in the photo frame -- just the scene itself. Now that these scenic spots are deserted, it seems slightly eery! In this case, it happens to be because of the corona virus, but an active imagination could make you think it was due to something even more sinister. Great photos from Chris!

Yes, that's a really good point Sylvia - some places just don't look right without people!

I would also agree it looks quite scary with noone there when it would normally be so busy. I saw a news article written by a woman who runs across London each day to go to work. She also started taking pictures of the empty places and it looked so strange.

Yes, I find it really spooky, although one friend on FB commented that he preferred it this way - I don't!

Those are very unusual sights of the big touristic centers and it looks like it is from some kind of post-apocalyptic movie. Nonetheless, very good photos.
